Are there prerequisites to make RSS Xpress work?
Prerequisites are indicated at the beginning of this page. RSS Xpress works under Windows (tested with XP and Vista).
Is there a portable version of RSS Xpress?
Yes. You just need to go to the download page, retrieve the ZIP version and launch the file "RSS Xpress USB.bat".
Is RSS Xpress free?
Yes. You can even distribute freely around you its original (i.e. not modified) release.
I would like to install RSS Xpress on a new computer, how can I keep all my data?
Firstly, ensure that the last version of RSS Xpress is installed on both computers. Close RSS Xpress. Move the setting folder "1.0.0.0" from one computer to other. According to your Windows version, its path can be different:
XP : C:\Documents and Settings\Your_Windows_Session_Name\Application Data\Bull\RSS Xpress
Vista and Windows 7 : C:\Users\ Your_Windows_Session_Name \AppData\Roaming\Bull\RSS Xpress
Launch RSS Xpress on the new computer. That’s it: you have retrieved all your data.
NB : you might have to activate the display of hidden folders and files to access to these folders.
I cannot access to my old news. Is it normal?
First, make sure the option "Delete read news when exiting" is not checked. If this is not the case, you must know that when you select in the treeview a folder or My feeds, only unread news are displayed. To access the read news, simply select a feed.
If you still cannot access your old news, please send me a message with more details.
How to open links from the RSS Xpress integrated browser in Firefox (and not in Internet Explorer)?
The integrated browser of RSS Xpress is based on Internet Explorer. Therefore, when you click on a link supposed to open in a new window, the page will be loaded in Internet Explorer. If, like me, you use Firefox, there is a simple way to force a link to open in your favourite browser.
To do this, install the FirefoxView extension. Restart Firefox. Then go to the Tools menu, Add-ons. Click the "Options" button of the FirefoxView extension, then click the "Install" button.
Finally, close all Internet Explorer windows and restart RSS Xpress. Now, when you visit a web page in the RSS Xpress integrated browser, right-click on any link and then select "Open link in Firefox".
I set the options to keep only the news of the last X months but I still have older news displayed.
Firstly, you have to know that, when you set this option for example to one month, RSS Xpress keeps the news of the current month and the complete previous one. In addition, RSS Xpress also keeps the latest news of each feed, even deleted ones (they appears in "News recently deleted"), to check if news have already been retrieved earlier (to avoid proposing you again the same news after a refresh.
Besides, be aware that the automatic deletion affects only read news.
